Some computer manufacturers provide a trial version only of the virus protection software, while others provide the fully functional versions. Still others go even further and provide more than one type of virus protection on the same computer.
Why more is not always better
If your new computer does come with more than one form of virus protection, however, it is important to know that some virus protection programs can interfere with one another. It is best o run one type of virus protection at a time, try each one, and determine which one you like best. After you have found the virus protection software that works best for you it can be installed as the only form of virus protection.
No matter what type of virus protection you use, however, it is vital to keep it updated. While in the past updating virus protection software once per week was the standard, these days it is essential that the virus protection software be updated once a day. In most cases, you will want to schedule these anti virus updates for a time when the computer is not in use. Other programs, such as email programs and internet browsers, can sometimes interfere with virus protection software, so it is important that these programs be closed prior to downloading the updates. Most virus protection software allows users to schedule the anti virus signature updates to download and install automatically. This is important, since it is easy to forget to update the software, and an out of date virus protection software package is virtually worthless.
There are certainly many reasons to keep your virus software up to date, and to keep your computer protected. With so much personal and confidential information kept on the average personal computer, it is absolutely vital for every computer user to keep their private information out of the wrong hands, and strong virus protection is a cornerstone of that process.
